Symptom:
Abnormal Odor from Vents
Condition
A abnormal odor from the HVAC vents while the blower fan speed switch is in any active position.
Detection
The condition is most easily observed by smelling the air discharged from the HVAC vents.
Description
Airflow is produced by a blower motor located in the HVAC box. The blower motor draws air into the HVAC box from either inside of the vehicle (recirculation) or outside of the vehicle (fresh air); this is achieved by moving a door inside the HVAC box. Modern vehicles incorporate a cabin air filter which traps contaminates suspended in the air as it is pulled into the HVAC box and output through the vents.
